Our History
Manna Bakery commenced in 1983, as the in-store bakery for another speciality food store in St. John's. It was then determined by the bakery's operator, Jindra Fodor, that she would be best able to present the products and the style of service she required at new premises on Freshwater Road. These are the same premises we now occupy, and have been used for Manna, since 1986. In 1989, some adjacent space became available and Manna was expanded to accommodate expanded display space, and a small dining area of some 16 seats. In 2007 additional space became available, and the business was expanded to provide for more retail space, as well as an additional 24 seats in the dining area, so at present the business occupies nearly 5,000 square feet of retail, dining and production space.
In May of 1992 the Rusted Family acquired the business and company from the Fodors, and has continued to add products and services, while remaining true to what made Mrs. Fodor successful . This strategy appears to have worked, and the traditions of high quality, healthful food continues.

For over 20 years he was involved as chief operating officer of a major fast food chain with locations in various parts of Newfoundland.
In addition to this experience, he has been involved as a Vice President and President of a firm providing a variety of consulting services to the hospitality and other industries, particularly in the areas of operations management, strategic plan development, and human resource programs.
During his career, Mr. Rusted has been very active in industry and community organizations, on both a local, as well as a National and International Basis.
The types of groups have been diverse, but all involve service as a cornerstone of their mandate. These would be groups such as church organizations, charities, educational organizations, civic and government agencies, and groups related to the growth and development of the foodservice and hospitality industry. Some of the more notable areas of service were having served as Chairman and President of the Canadian Restaurant & Foodservices Association, the St. John's YM-YMCA, and Triathlon Newfoundland & Labrador, as well as a Director of the Boards of the National Restaurant Association (U.S.A.), and the Canadian Hospitality Foundation.
In 2000 he was named an Honoray Fellow of the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association, in recognition of his contributions to the restaurant industry in Canada.
Jonathan Rusted has been involved with Manna Bakery Limited for over 10 years, while attending school and university. He has worked in most roles in the business, have served stints as a baker, cook, delivery driver and retail sales clerk, as he honed his skills...read more
While completing his university education at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Jon made the decision to pursue a career with Manna Bakery Limited. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration and now serves as Vice President of the firm. A life long competitive athlete, Jon takes particular interest in continuing the legacy of products and menu items that are both healthful and good tasting.
As an athlete, Jon is well known in local swimming, and basketball circles. He is also a competitive sailor. He has had a long association with the Memorial University Seahawks Men’s Basketball team, and currently plays Division One Basketball in the St. John’s Men's League. As a sailor Jon has participated in most of the local sailing race events, and as well sailed as crew in the 2010 Route Halifax Saint Pierre Yacht Race.
Currently Jon volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors for the Restaurant Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Manna Bakery is renowned for the finest of foods. But this would not be possible without our dedicated and talented staff. Our staff is well trained in the art of food preparation and can prepare foods made to your exact specifications.
